Presiding Justice Carol W. Hunstein was appointed to the Supreme Court of the State of Georgia in November 1992. She is the second woman in history to serve as a permanent member of the Court. Prior to this appointment, she served as an elected justice to the Superior Court of DeKalb County for 12 years. Before that, Justice Hunstein was in private law practice, having received her Juris Doctor in 1976 from Stetson University College of Law. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Florida Atlantic University in 1972 and an Associate of Arts degree from Miami-Dade Junior College in 1970.

Hunstein’s extensive experience in the criminal justice system includes work on domestic violence, combating racial, ethnic, and gender bias in the justice system, and working against the unauthorized practice of law. She is a former district director of the National Association of Women Judges (NAWJ) and a former Rosalynn Carter Honorary Fellow in Public Policy at the Emory University Institute on Women's Studies. Her honors are too many to enumerate, but include an honorary LLD from Stetson University College of Law, the Emory University Legal Association for Women Students' Public Service Award, and the Commitment to Equality Award from the State Bar of Georgia Committee on Women and Minorities in the Profession. In addition to her judicial duties, Justice Hunstein frequently serves as an adjunct professor at Emory University School of Law.

Kathy Blee Ashe is an active community leader, a former educator, a mother, and a volunteer. In June of 1991, she was first elected to the Georgia General Assembly House of Representatives. Kathy is currently the Representative for House District 56 …the heart of Atlanta, where she serves on several committees and is active in the Women’s. Representative Ashe received her elementary and high school education in the public schools of Tallahassee, Florida. In 1968, she graduated from Agnes Scott College. She then earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from Emory University and did further graduate work at Georgia State University. She taught in the Marietta and Cobb County public schools from 1969 to 1977. In addition to her duties as a representative, Kathy serves on the boards of several educational, religious, and not-for-profit organizations in the state of Georgia. She has served in leadership roles in numerous community organizations, including the League of Women Voters, the Atlanta Community Food Bank, the United Way of Atlanta, the Atlanta Women’s Foundation, the Junior League of Atlanta and Vote Choice.
