It doesn't seem like it but I guess it was 12 years ago - last time playing football. One of the semi-pro leagues. This video from last week's NFL games shows a fairly common hit on a player. They're now implementing fines. I think the guy in the red was fined 50 or 75 thousand USD or whatever. (I played the same position as that guy here in the red 23 and I knocked my damn self out twice, once suspended for three games because they said I made some profane gesture and a "pfff" at the other guy laying there but I was out cold - walking, though. He was kinda talkative before the game).

The answer might be to eliminate helmets and pads, true, but mostly tape mouths shut.

I never understood it. You just kinda grinfrown (even people in Detroit didn't like Bill Laimbeer's style since he was probably the only guy in the NBA whose dad make more moolah than he did - Grant Hill too, I guess).

Larry Bird talked some, or so I've heard, but his was telling the defense that he was comin' off a pick and where he would be getting the ball for a last shot (of the game). Then all net, of course. Walk off. hehe :)

First football/soccer match since school days, and indoors. They were able to hide me so I wasn't a factor for good or, more importantly, bad. I didn't pick up the ball and run with it, and noone hit me on the elbow with their throat. Success. :)

Watching Cavs vs Bulls Game 5 of the 1989 playoffs, aka "The Shot" Game. Yeah, MJ.

Man, Cavs' defense was solid back then! Only to be matched by the late '80s Pistons or the '90s Bulls.

There haven't been as good defending teams since then!

Dumars played tough D and so did Rodman (rebounding freak) but guys just didn't feel like getting their necks broken by Mahorn and Lame beer.

When you watch those older games..."suddenly" it's 20 or whatever years later and I wonder what are the differences in the game of then versus today. Pick n roll never gets old but I'll bet they moved the ball a little differently. For one thing, did they have the 3 point shot...can't remember.

THey had the 3 point game back then. In game 1 in that Cavs vs Bulls series MJ and Pippen dismantled the Cavs from behind the arc.

Props to Ehlo and Price in Game 5, both played with injuries. Props to the Cavs - they were clearly the better team in that series and as a 'team' they deserved to win. They just had the misfortune to play against MJ. Tough sh*t.

Gotta love Doug Collins' comment after the gam. When asked what he told the guys just before that last possession, Doug said: "get the ball to Michael and everybody get the f*ck out of the way!".

The biggest difference between the basketball of the yore and now is the toughness. 20 years ago the players were literally fighting, elbows, knees. It was more hockey than basketball. Now it's like: hey ref, ref! he frowned at me! can i have a free throw please?
