Temat: The V-Sign

Is that very sign the one of the major reasons why English and French guys "hate each other" or "are not so willing to like each other"?

Is it still interpreted as a general insult?

What is your opinion about that?

For those who have no ide what is the true origin of that sign, take a look at the small historical review below.

The V-Sign- was found during Battle of Agincourt between the armies of the English and French kings. The English bowmen were an important part of their king's army and the French king decided that any captured English soldier was to have his first two fingers cut off, to prevent him from being able to use a longbow. As an act of defiance against the French generally, the English came to stick their two (attached) bow-fingers at them - a way of saying "we can still fire our longbows at you' (or more generally 'go stuff yourself!").

I do not know if it is still used as a general insult. However, I have heard that V-sign has its long history strictly connected with hating French guys. The funny thing is that W.Churchill used is very often :)

There is a big difference between giving someone the two fingers(although outdated) and the V for victory as shown above with Churchill.

We use it passing strangers in the street. It's a reflex to me. "Peace."

Sometimes older people will laugh a little but it's a friendly laugh.
