I think that might be true for any kind of discussion groups in the net.I see no danger as long as ... oh, you mentioned those...
It's a period of time, and it won't last too long. This is what you need right now, and you can't change too much about it.
One day you'll get bored with GL, and you'll find a different sort of hobby, and nobody from here will ever remember about you.

One day you'll get bored with GL, and you'll find a different sort of hobby- I guess you are right Ilter(as always!)I think I may have gotten to that stage,but there is the occasional rush to check if theres something to discuss or argue.
My question was regarding if others members can balance GL time with other pursuits-domestic or social or if some part of their life is suffering because of their Goldenline chats. I think of those with children,those at work, those in a long term relationships.
Have partners objected to your online habits?

Hm, well...
I don't use GL at work, don't have any children (at least any I know of ;)) and i'm not in any relationship at the moment. And GL is a nice way of spending some of my free time.
Although lately I caught myself on having three or four groups opened and refreshing them continuously. And again. And again... And the time flows...
I gotta get a grip on myself ;)

Your wife, another one's boyfriend... they are already close and they know what subjects to talk about when they're together. They know who is bored with what type of conversation. We all know how much time we have when we want to talk about politics with our significant other.
But here, you can bore me to death or fight me with your sharpest words if you want, and I won't threaten you to not cook for the evening.
My question was regarding if others members can balance GL time with other pursuits-domestic or social or if some part of their life is suffering because of their Goldenline chats.My social life doesn't suffer because of my online activities. But there are times I'm not sure about my work. Because they both happen to be around the same thing: my computer.
Sometimes I feel guilty... that I could use some of my online time in a more productive way - but it doesn't happen too often.
I think of those with children,those at work, those in a long term relationships.If this activity is something new for everyone in the family, I guess it would cause a trouble when the time spent were extra-erratic.

Let's say you are married, you've met your wife at the beginning of 90s (when there were practically no internet at all), and you have just started to spend 4 hours of your family/home time in front of your computer, looking at a browser (or worse, a chat screen). That's simply a bad sign for the relationship. Even if you'd be discussing world economics with the top specialists.
But we all got used to the idea (internet) and if the time is not bothering anyone, I'd say the risks are minimal.
