Temat: Halloween - cultural differences matter in introducing...
Hello!
I have chosen the above image on purpose to demonstrate how Halloween is being received by most people on the Polish ground
(at least according to the one of the TV stations).
Critics are fiercely starting to fight with the new "pre-Saints Day" phenomenon which we imported from the US. It is this harder to put it to work in a conservatist country like Poland. Who will win this battle?
I think time will tell whether Polish citizens will think that it's evil or normal (to a certain extent) to cut out pumpkins and dress up as weird creatures.
Generally, this illustrates how important understanding a given cultural context before entering a certain market is.
For example, can you see the famous Polish pierogi dish
(although originally they come from our Eastern neighbours)being munched on by thousands of Chinese in Beijing?
I think they have a strong chance for competing with the local dumplings
but the locals would see no point (and would not allow it)in replacing their traditional dainty.
In the end no matter how much advertising, marketing effort would be made, that trend would simply not catch on, at least on a mass scale, right?
Why am I bringing it up in the first place?
Because it applies to Halloween and dumplings as much as a software product, innovative pump system or a polish poet.
It has to fit where needed or it won't work.
In the meantime I have to answer the door as there are 2 witches asking for "trick or treat"...
Życzę Państwu Spokojnego Dnia Wszystkich Świętych.
