iDEA CHALLENGE 2010 = Illumina’s Data Excellence Award





Illumina's technologies have the potential to help us understand diseases and the living world around us at the molecular level. Unlocking that knowledge will enable radical improvements in human health and quality of life over the next decade. A key component to achieving this vision lies in empowering and accelerating the analysis, visualization and interpretation of the data being generated with these technologies. With this in mind, Illumina is announcing the iDEA (Illumina’s Data Excellence Award) Challenge.

iDEA is a program designed to challenge the scientific community to develop new and creative visualization and data analysis techniques.

Entries do not need to have functioning software. For the Algorithm and Visualization judging, storyboards, sketches and cartoons are all eligible. The goal is to lower the barrier to entry so all the sharpest minds can take part and the best ideas can be considered.
iDEA Award Timeline

Beginning on 15 June 2010, we start making a data set developed from Illumina sequencing instruments that includes RNA-Seq, directional RNA-Seq, Small RNA, DNA Methylation and Genomic DNA from a series of breast cancer cell lines. This Illumina Data will be provided to those who have registered for the iDEA Challenge.

The deadline for entries is 15 Mar 2011, and the winners will be announced in June 2011 at an iDEA Conference that is anticipated to be held in San Diego, California (exact location, date, and time to be announced at a future date).
