Do you swear a lot?

Do you like it?

Do people swear too much? Or maybe not enough?

How many swear words do you know in other languages?

What's your favourite?

Do you swear a lot?

Too much, but only at home. I don't like when people swear in public.
Do you like it?
Love it.
Do people swear too much? Or maybe not enough?
At home? Too much, but it's usually directed at objects, very rarely atpeople.
How many swear words do you know in other languages?
Know all of them in Polish, and quite a lot of them in English.

1. yes i do, trying not to
2. hell, yeah
3. People in Poland swear too much...I have this problem with Polish swear words. I don't like them. I don't mind swearing in English and in any Balkan language...it's just sounds different
4. I can swear in 10 languages.
5. My favourite Macedonian one is loosely translated as "I want to have sexual intercourse with your grandmother while she's flying". My grandfather has some own swear phrases all having to do with some church in Serbia (in a place called Ravanica, never been there). Nobody knows what happened in the church and why he hates it so much, but we all love the phrases he invented and left as heritage to our family.

A fair amount, but as I said in another thread, never in Polish.

I've got moments when swearing comes easily and moments when I just can't get myself to do it - the word just wouldn't come out of my mouth. I'm very inconsistent with it.
Do you like it?

Sometimes I do, especially when I know I swore at the right time with the right word.
Do people swear too much? Or maybe not enough?

I hate it when people use swearwords as commas, in that sense they really do swear too much. It makes my ears bleed and accounts for devaluation of swearword impact when it actually is needed.
How many swear words do you know in other languages?

Not too many, but I can say 'na kaka inis ka, caya papatayin kita!' which is Tagalog for 'You get on my nerves, so I'm going to kill you!' I always say it to every new Philipino I get to know and then get watch them wet themselves laughing ;)

What's your favourite?

I try not to swear.
And I'm against it in general, especially in writing, although I understand people find some kind of satisfaction doing it. It often turns into compulsive behavior (the way I see it).

Plus swearing for me is just a sign of limited vocabulary, except when it is used consciously as literary means.

Funny thing is that when people who swear are around those who don't, then they limit themselves, and become more careful which is a nice thing.

Try to find some original explanations for your swearing habits, as I'm bored with the usual stuff.

I think it's always more about the combination of words and what fits the context best. I've heard some very original swearwords which seemed a complete miss in a given situation.

I like what Michal said. There's nothing like a good oxymoron ;))

Oh, Sylwia, you're a linguistic genius.
You have a way with words, and it's completely different to the 'budka z piwem style'

Do you swear a lot?

Yup, although only in a company of people that don't seem to mind. Otherwise, I'm linguistically gentle like a newborn baby.
Do you like it?

Most of the time, yes. Nothing heats the discussion like a good swear word or two!
Do people swear too much? Or maybe not enough?

I've yet to meet someone that uses "kurwa" instead of coma, so I guess it's pretty OK.
How many swear words do you know in other languages?

Quite a few in English, a couple in German and something along the lines of one swear word per a foreign language I've dealt with in my life.
What's your favourite?

"Lèche mon cul" - lick my ass. So simple and yet funny as hell!

Not a lot, but I do. Not in Polish, as I sound pathetic when use a swearword with an "r" in it. Like I said before, nothing wrong with an occasional f-word here or there.
I cannot swear in 10 languages as I believe it takes to know a language well to be able to swear in it properly. My favorite swearing language is Spanish. "Hijo de mil putas" is amongst my favorites.

And what exactly does it mean? "Putas" stands for "bitches" or something similar, right? Just curious.Michał G. edytował(a) ten post dnia 01.11.08 o godzinie 15:41

Thank you, Lidia.
When it comes to being a linguistic genius, I don't think Rafal can be beaten - it comes so naturally to him and he manages to be funny almost every single time ;)

Jarek & Tatiana deserve a credit too.
