Temat: 'Spying' and the internet:
I personally think internet spying is a bit like whacking off: everybody does it (I mean 99% do it and the remaining 1% claiming they don't are probably lying ;))
This doesn't necessarily mean I wouldn't believe anyone who expressly says googling people up doesn't agree with them, but as far as I remember, pretty much everyone who I casually asked if they do it, they said yes. I do - perhaps on an impulse rather than regular basis but sometimes curiosity gets the better of me.
And I know people google me, which doesn't really bother me too much. I've read articles about googling up being part of recruiting process, which if became a common practice, would indeed feel a bit scary. I mean I've revealed certain sensitive information about myself which might potentially be misused, but I think (or choose to believe) the chances for this are rather slim. I wouldn't post a picture of me being drunk but otherwise just don't think about it.
These things are done after hours in the realms of our privacy and aren't easily traced back. As Jarek said in the other thread, you wouldn't normally know if someone googled you so unless you've posted something embarrassing about yourself, it's no point worrying.
The problem begins when it's someone else who caught you in an embarrassing situation and posted it on the Internet without your knowledge - like pics taken and films made with mobile phone cameras, which has plagued schools everywhere. I think this needs stopping but quite honestly I don't know how.
