Pat Ingoldsby is a Dublin legend. My first memory of him was on an Irish TV show for kids, called "Pat's Hat". He writes poetry, thoughts, epigrams, etc. He prints books of them himself and sells them in Dublin, thus giving every client a chance to have the book autographed. I've decided to share his poems with you now and again.

DO ME A FAVOUR LADS
Something very interesting happens
when a beautiful girl stops
and is browsing through my books.
All of a sudden the stomachs go in.
All of a sudden the young guys
are mad into poetry

UNEXPLODED WOMAN
The rambling woman with the broken vodka eyes is asleep
crooked-bunched against the wall.
Not a move, not a sound, one leg up, one leg down.
A tourist, caring, is bending over, moving her, whispering,
"Are you alright? Are you alright?"
She was a minute ago. Now she's off again.
In and out the broken glass, up the rushy glen!

BOTHAIR NA SMAOINTE
A beautiful od man, bent with the wieght of still being here
peered sideways at me in the middle of O'Connel Street.
"I remember your face from the radio" he said.
"I used to hear you on Radio Eireann."
I looked over towards the top of the G.P.O.
Sure that's where we used to do it.

They remind me of Marcin Świetlicki - a Kraków poet/legend, who also writes prose poems. Prose poems always evoke ambiguous feelings in me. On one hand their simplicity/crudeness makes me mad - I tend to think that it must be some kind of joke, everybody can write a few sentences and arrange them in a specific pattern. On the other hand tho, they can be quite amusing or surprising sometimes, especially when you suddenly realise that it is possible to put some things into words in a particular way, the way you wouldn't do it yourself or they make you see ordinary things in a completely different light. But personally I prefer it the other way round - I love reading prose fiction enriched by poetic perceptions/figures, etc.Patrycja P. edytował(a) ten post dnia 15.04.08 o godzinie 14:34

My personal favourite:

WOW!
Sharp and frosty morning.
What a beautiful place to be.
Dublin City!
Christmas Eve tomorrow!
Skipping along
beside your Daddy.
Your hand as high as his.
Eyes wide as windows.
Pin-balling
magic to magic.
Every colour winking
"Me! Me! Hey! Look at me!"
And Santa still to come!

THE WAY YOU TAKE ME OUT OF MY STANDING
I imagine you
smiling at me
the shy way you do
and as I image
a smile
comes rising
out of me too.

TRINITY TEARS
At night time
when they have all gone
The Book of Kells
cries and cries and cries
because it is a book
and nobody
is allowed
to touch it
