You can learn leadership just like anything else, but the question is: do you want to?

Zastąpiłbym "be" przez "become". Sposób w jaki nazywamy leadership przewiduje gdzie dojdziemy.

Hi,

We must decide if managment is an art or science?
Can we lear it all or do we have to have to some inborn skills.

Wojtku,

Zgadzam się z Twoją wypowiedzią. Można być kierownikiem po przez naukę, a liderem po przez to coś czego nauczyć się raczej nie da.

One can learn anything.
Learning a skill = f (talent, effort, time). If someone is more talented in something, than the time required is less ... and vice versa. The trick is to be as fast as possible in aquiring knowledge.

Leadership is an art, however talent and good coaching grows real leaders.

my 5 cents.

Well I think that leading is an art for all with natural talent in this matter and for others which not as talented as other once and have to learn all natural skills it is a science.

Temat: How can I be a leader?

Hi,

A nice question.

I think anybody can be a leader. The question is not about whether anybody can but whether he/she wants to. We may choose to be a leader in on area/circumstances and not in the other ones. It is usually so. A leader does not necessarily mean the chief executive of a company or a director. Leaders, in my understanding, can be anywhere, among your colleagues or among people working on an assembly line. It does not matter. Being a leader is about leading people (i.e. encouraging and supporting them to grow) that can be "exercised" in any circumstances. Leaders have a vision and enthusiasm. They motivate/encourage people around to develop, to achieve, to enjoy, to overcome their limitations.... These can be friends, colleagues at work, parents, ..., anybody.

In order to lead people well, one needs to be a good leader of herself/himself first. This means you need to know yourself well. You need to be clear about own values, beliefs, priorities, experience, learning styles, etc.
- Good leaders have a high integrity.
They set up examples, or "walk their talk", as to say.
- They are comitted to a vision / goal. They have a desire and a willpower.
- They are open to learn from their fellows. They don't know everything and they admit that. They remain humble.
- They ask questions. They listen well. They seek to understand first than to be understood.
- They deeply respect all their fellows. They motivate people by love (=enthusiasm, joy, fun, achievement) and not by fear (proving own worth too the company, blaming etc)
- ...

I believe there is a difference between managers and leaders.
Managers manage and leaders lead :)
A good leader is able to manage when necessary. In my experience, managers do not usually make good leaders. Leaders think in holistic terms, managers have to think (by definition) in down-to-earth approachable tasks.
Leadership is about people. Management may be about people, projects or other issues. Moreover, in management, there are usually strict goals to achieve and tasks to manage.

As Stephan Convey said (7 Habbits of Effective People)
"Managers do the things righs, leaders do the right things."

Cheers to life,

Elzbieta
