Temat: Are female students a "perk of the job"

A vice-chancellor at a British university is encouraging lecturers to enjoy gazing at, even fantasising about, attractive female students.

He explains: "Normal girls – more interested in abs than in labs, more interested in pecs than specs, more interested in triceps than tripos – will abjure their lecturers for the company of their peers, but nonetheless, most male lecturers know that, most years, there will be a girl in class who flashes her admiration and who asks for advice on her essays. What to do?

"Enjoy her! She's a perk."

Olivia Bailey, of the national union of students, countered this standpoint by saying: "I am appalled that a university vice-chancellor should display such an astounding lack of respect for women.

"Regardless of whether this was an attempt at humour, it is completely unacceptable for someone in Terence Kealey's position to compare a lecture theatre to a lapdancing club, and I expect that many women studying at Buckingham University will be feeling extremely angry and insulted at these comments."

He said what quite a few people dare not say. It was the same in my grad school - most students were blokes so any semi-attractive female undergrad was a perk for us. Funnily enough, this was to their advantage because we were more than happy to offer them our tissue cultures, media solutions and FPLC purifiers slots at peak times :)

If he'd said something similar about ethnic minorities, he'd be out of the job...

I don't see the problem...
Of course I'd prefer a classroom full of good looking, good smelling and intelligent and/or well mannered ladies, than the company of cussing, sweating, grumpy, unwashed men. And since some gals out there show off what they got, one might take this as a perk or a gift.
Sometimes, as a man, you just want to say: Thanks. Thanks, that you, wearing that, crossed my path and put a smile on my face.
Evil, who wants to read a bad or sleazy intention into these lines. As a man it is possible to appreciate the looks of a women without necessarily having to fantasize immediately about dirty things.

Who said it and that he said it is simply a clever provocation. Apart from the rest mentioned above...

Je sais! Mais, I try to keep either cussing or sweating or being grumpy or being unwashed to be as soft as possible to any kind of female company ;)

I find a company of open minded and interesting people to be the best perk. Nothing that I dread more than 90mins with someone, who's main interest is pop culture, or better yet nothing.

The clue is in the country he is from. Britain. Hardly the country of beatiful women, is it now? I am really sorry if i have offended any British girls here but we all know it's true.
Universtity is full of nice looking women so it must a right treat for that bloke!
And yes, he is a sexist pig but at the same time loads of women are so there's no harm done...

Much criticism tends to be inverted praise.

Do you consider yourself 'beautiful'?

I agree, someone is in dire need to get laid. But I doubt it's Olivia.

It's a shame you reacted in such a way. My English bf has confirmed it on many occassions so there you go.

As for expressing my feelings, all i can say is that i never did and never will do PC. Get over it.

I'm sure he can but it pisses me off when people like you can't be bothered to reply in a sensible way.

PC is a form of politeness.

Once you stop being PC about others, others will stop being PC about yourself.

And can you handle that?

FYI, it pisses me off too when people are trying too hard to sound cynical and ask stupid questions just to prove their point
