AmbushProfile: Economy of force is one of the best ways to describe the sound of Ambush records. Based in South London, it stands as a hopeful flash point in the micro-conservative landscape of electronic dance music.
Started in 1997 by Toby Reynolds (DJ Scud) and Jason Skeet (Aphasic) it operates from a refreshingly intuitive perspective. With an approach that acknowledges a distinctly contemporary mind-set Ambush represent the most recent branch of modern adventurous music. Influences like power electronics, free improvisation and musique concrete, give Ambush a strong sense of precedent, while the frameworks of drum & bass, hardcore techno, hip-hop and dancehall reggae gives it firm roots in the populist tradition of soundsystem culture.
The label has stopped in August 2006. No future plans are yet known.

Djax RecordsProfile: Djax Records was founded by Saskia Slegers (Miss Djax) in 1989. Having worked in a record shop for many years, Saskia met a large number of promising artists whose music never got released because, according to the Dutch record-companies, it was "not commercial" enough. At that point she decided that the time was right to start her own label.

Network23Profile: Spiral Tribe's label. Started in 1994, defunct in 1996.
As well as releasing music by ST or their individual members, the label also issued records by outside artists such as Unit Moebius, Curley, Les Boucles Etranges, Somatic Responses, and Caustic Visions. The first releases were pressed at GZ-Vinyl and suffer from inferior sound quality. The records were initially sold at Spiral Tribe's (free) parties, but the label's current cult status only started to grow after it closed down, the records gaining recognition as collectable techno classics several years after they were released. The obscure nature of the label has led to speculation whether some records actually exist, such as, for instance, NTW 38 or 39 or Stormcore 4.
In 2005 Network Repress was set up, to re-release tracks from Network23.

MononomProfile: Label of the Dutch Mononom Soundsystem, started by Pete Concrete and friends in 1994. He came up with the name to use it for their dj-ing, organising parties, making music and releasing records.
Mononom merged with another Dutch soundsystem called HPG in 1995.
The first tracks on Mononom 000 were recorded by Pete Concrete, Tijn and Robbert Latumahina. This record was released at the same time as Acid Planet 19 (produced by Pete Concrete, ATeeze and Maarten Halmans).
Mononom 001 till 005 are produced by Robbert Latumahina.
When the soundsystem stopped giving parties the Mononom label stopped after 6 releases (000-005). Robbert continued with Sensory Overload 006.
A few years later Bas and Tijn started Mononom Rec.

*Submitter info*

What I find amazing about this label, is how they have managed to move with changing times. Started off releasing Acid techno with a band Bourbonese Qualk (ex. punk/something or other type band which specialized in onstage vandalism etc) eventually moved onto industrial and breakcore.. now more on an experimental/idm/broken beats tip.

SST RecordsProfile: SST Records is a record label formed in 1978 in Long Beach, California by Greg Ginn. It was originally an electronics company called SST (Solid State Transformers) Electronics (one of the employees was Black Flag bassist Chuck Dukowski); Ginn converted it to a record label so he could release Black Flag's Nervous Breakdown EP. The label was a prominent figure in the L.A. punk scene around 1980 and 1981, releasing more albums by Black Flag as well as Minutemen, Descendents, and Stains (3), and has since remained a major symbol of the city's underground culture. SST quickly branched out in its early years to release albums by bands outside of the southern California area, notably Soundgarden, Meat Puppets, Hüsker Dü, Bad Brains, and others.
In 2007, the label relocated to Taylor, Texas.
