E3 film - student film competition

WHO: all students from ELIA member institutions from the 27 European Union member countries plus Norway, Iceland, Turkey and Liechtenstein can apply.
WHAT: ELIA is issuing a call for proposals for short videos (maximum 3 minutes), for A European 3 minute film competition. Proposals should reflect Europe’s linguistic diversity and the role played by different languages in intercultural dialogue in Europe.
DETAILS: each selected applicant will receive a grant of €7,500 in order to complete their video. A maximum of 30 proposals will be selected.The selected films will be presented during the Prix Europa Festival in Berlin. Travel and participation costs will be covered for the selected students and teachers. A dvd compilation of all selected videos will be made and distributed by the European Commission.

Castle Des Reaux

WHAT: in the framework of preparation to celebrate the six hundredth anniversary of French castle Château des Réaux, its owner, the poet Evgeny Yukhnytsya, welcomes participation in the creation of a Modern Art Gallery in Château des Réaux castle with the topic of "Women's and Men's Legs in the Art of the Beginning of the Third Millennium".
The exhibition topic is developed in the following subtopics:
A. Classical Delightful Woman's Legs of the Third Millennium;
B. Humoristic or Satirical View on Modern Legs;
C. Man's Legs Evolved up to the Present;
D. Your View on Four Legs of Two Persons in one work.
PRIZES: 1st Prize – award in the amount of 4,000 euros/2,985 GBP; 2nd Prize – award in the amount of 2,200 euros/1,642 GBP; 3rd Prize – award in the amount of 1,800 euros/1,343 GBP; 4th Prize – award in the amount of 1,200 euros/895 GBP; 5th Prize – award in the amount of 800 euros/597 GBP.
TO PARTICIPATE: 1. Works should be obligatorily painted by oil (on canvas or any other material); the dimensions are starting from 24 x 15 inches (61cm x 38cm) or more (of any shape as you desire - a rectangular shape, a circle, etc.).
2. Artist's works should be dated and signed. A brief biography attached to the canvas is desirable.
3. Each work should be original: copies are not accepted.
The acceptance of works is decided by a jury, the members of which are figures of art and literature. EACH submitted piece of work corresponding to one of the topics (A, B, C, and D) will be surely bought by the gallery. However, the organizer reserves his right to make the final choice. The work's price is a token one, for those who accept it, of 305 Euros / 219 GBP, with the transfer of author's rights and will be included into the composition of the constantly operating exhibition in the castle or other places as well as its reproduction will appear in the catalogue of exhibition. Not selected paintings will be returned to their authors.

The Aspect Prize

WHO: eligible artists live and work in Scotland and must not have had a solo show in the London area for the past six years. There is no age limit.
WHAT: major prize for Scottish artists.
WHERE: entries will be displayed in The Paisley Museum and Art Galleries.
WHEN: June/July.
PRIZES: £16,000 first prize. The Aspect Prize, generously supported by Aspect Capital, is one of the largest prizes for painting in Scotland with a total prize fund of £34,000. Four winners from the Aspect Prize Exhibition of Entries in June will each receive £6,000 and take part in the Aspect Prize Winners' Exhibition in London in 2009. The overall winner, to be announced at the London exhibition, will receive an additional £10,000. The winners will be the principal contributors to the Aspect Prize Winners' Exhibition held at a gallery in Central London in January 2009.

Northern Design Competition 2008

WHO: students studying fine art, photography, digital media, illustration, product design, architectural design, graphic design and fashion at a university, college or sixth form in the North.
WHERE: Leeds.
WHAT: competition created to recognise, reward and celebrate the creative talent that is blossoming in Northern universities, colleges and schools. The Northern Design Competition was established in 2005 by Leeds Metropolitan University with a special interest in nurturing young talent. There are no restrictions on content, technique or format. High levels of technical expertise will be favoured by the judges. There is no entry fee and multiple submissions to categories are welcome. All entries must be submitted on-line.

The Worshipful Company of Pewterers

WHO: students of embroidery, design, arts, surface textiles, costume, fibres, interiors, fashion and textiles throughout the world whoare in full or part time education on or before the 31 of March. Research students are not eligible to enter.
WHERE: London.
WHAT: prestigious international prize for aiming to promote the use of hand embroidered surface embellishment within fashion, costume and interiors industries. In doing so, it is hoped that contemporary design and fresh approaches can be matched up with the high quality and expertise required in the professional world. Working on the theme dimension students should investigate fashion embroidery that explores relief effects or three dimensional fashion products using embroidered techniques as a foundation or integral part. This can be in the form of relief embroidery techniques - padded or raised embroidery methods such as fabric manipulation, quilting, raised gold work techniques, raised beading techniques, found objects covered with thread /material, and construction processes made from embroidery alone.
