How do I move my license of Minitab, Companion by Minitab, or Quality Companion to another computer?

The Move License feature allows a single-user license of a Minitab desktop product to be moved to a new computer without having to contact Technical Support. It deactivates the license on the current computer and generates a new product key to use on a new computer.
Not all licenses can be moved. If you meet one of the following criteria, you cannot use the Move License feature:

You purchased an academic license (OnTheHub.com).
You purchased a timed or fixed duration license.
You activated the software using the web activation method.

To move a license, perform the following steps:

Move a license in Minitab 18

Start Minitab 18.
Choose Help > About.
Click Move License.
Select Yes to confirm that you want to deactivate Minitab 18 on the current computer.
Select Save to text file to save the product key to a location on your computer.
Activate Minitab 18 on a new computer using the same product key.

Move a license in Companion by Minitab

Start Companion by Minitab.
From the Backstage menu, choose Help.
Under License Information, click Move License.
Select Yes to confirm that you want to deactivate Companion by Minitab on the current computer.
Select Save to text file to save the product key to a location on your computer.
Activate Companion by Minitab on a new computer using the same product key.

Move a license in Minitab 17

Start Minitab 17.
Choose Help > Licensing to start the Single-User License Utility.
Select Move.
Select Yes to confirm that you want to deactivate Minitab 17 on the current computer.
Select Save to text file to save the product key to a location on your computer.
Activate Minitab 17 on a new computer using the same product key.

Move a license in Minitab 16 or Quality Companion 3

Start Minitab 16 or Quality Companion 3.
Choose Help > Licensing to launch the Single-User License Utility.
Click Move.
Click Yes to confirm you want to deactivate the product on the current computer.
Click Save to text file to save the new product key to a location on your computer.
Activate your software on a new computer using the product key created during the Move process.

If you purchased an upgrade version, the new key produced by Move License will also be an upgrade key. Therefore, you must install and activate a previous version of Minitab on the new computer prior to using the new key.

If you have movable licenses of both Minitab 16 and Quality Companion 3 installed on the same computer, using the Move License feature in either product will deactivate both products and produce a single new product key that will activate both products on a new computer.

In Quality Companion, the Move License feature is only available in versions 3.2.1 and later.
