We can reflect.
About 10 years ago, I was driving around Chapel Hill, NC. It was noon. On one of the traffic lights I saw an army veteran who was hungry and needed food. Here was a guy who fought in Vietnam for the freedom of his country, and now he's standing on the corner begging for food or money. I studied his scruffy face, looked deep into his sad eyes and thought to myself: "What am I gonna have for lunch today?". I had to go with Vietnamese food.

I would recommend very local effort before we try to free Tibet with posters and e-mails. We might as well attempt to take over Microsoft through the ATM/Bankomat. "Charity begins at home." If you try your best to be generous to your family, in your own way I think you got it licked. :)

Oh yeah, I know some too.
In fact, I always learn something from such books. They somehow make you look at things from a different perspective.

Anyway, what I meant was that small everyday steps can make a difference. What else can? Attitude change is a long and weary social process.
And we will never achieve a paradise on earth, respecting each other's rights and loving thy neighbour, of course. It's like, you know, students asking me if I really believe in an assertive, non violent communication. All I can tell them is - if you ask me if I believe in love, I will say yes. If you ask me if I believe humans will all love each other and wars will stop, I will say hahaha no.

Oh, and it's not easy at all. It's simple stuff, but how many friends, aunts and uncles, parents and teachers will do it, what do you think?

Oh yeah, I know some too.
In fact, I always learn something from such books. They somehow make you look at things from a different perspective.

Which is easier done with kids than with adults. They are easily impressed by for instance Santa Clause. Adults, educated or not, have the thing for questioning and being ignorant. And most adults really have problems understanding that they have to grant the same rights to others which they claim for themselves...
Anyway, what I meant was that small everyday steps can make a difference. What else can? Attitude change is a long and weary social process.

When I was working to finance my studies, I worked together with some people, you might call sociopaths. Which was, I dare say, due to their poor education and the nature of heavy physical work (which leads to adrenaline, which leads to be tired, which leads to alcohol, etc.). It was impossible to make them understand in a logical or rational way that some things are plain wrong, like kicking people out of fun, playing with knifes, swearing aso. I tried different methods, not because I needed to change them, but I needed to get along with them as co-worker. At the end it was fifty-fifty: Those liked me, those didn't. And like here means: As a co-worker and a person with his own opinion. :)

Or as long as we keep taking little things (especially about oneself) seriously or believe in the amassing of wealth, consumer goods aso.

But with that guy pointing the gun - yeah, that's exactly what I mean: I do believe in non-violent, assertive communication, and if you ask me I do believe in love, too, and at the same time I do not believe that there will ever be no creatures at this planet pointing the guns at other creatures and so on. After all, human race is sinners;-).

And yeah, assertive communication might not work with someone who simply wants to kill you, but then nothing will work (unless you shoot the person first or somehow escape of course). This is why we have professional negotiators, and they know that there's no better way (unless you choose to shoot... etc.)
