Temat: Changsha is the capital city of Hunan
Changsha is the capital city of Hunan a province of South-central China having a population of just over 6 million people according to a census of 2003.The city has grown so much that it has now become a major port, handling rice, cotton, timber, and livestock, and cities like Guangzhou also use the port as a collection and distribution point. The city is a central point of rice milling and also has oil-extraction, tea- and tobacco-curing, and meat-processing plants in China.
The industry also has textile factories that produce cotton yarn and fabrics. Other factories produce agricultural chemicals and fertilizers, farm implements, and pumping machinery. Changsha has a large thermal generating station linked by a power grid with the nearby industrial centres of Zhuzhou and Xiangtan; together these three cities were designated in the 70’s as the nucleus of a major industrial complex. In the 60’s the heavy industry was developed, Chansha then became major manufacturer especially of machine tools and precision tools.
Changsha also became the center of the Chinese aluminum industry. The city also has cement, rubber, ceramic, and papermaking plants, as well as having some coal mines. Jobs offered in the Changsha industry include, Geologists, surveyors, Engineers, Chemists, Metallurgists, Physicists and machinists.
The manufacturing and construction sectors have grown significantly, growing 116% during the 2001-2005 period. Sectors such as agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery, have grown slightly over this same period. In addition, the consumer market has grown dramatically with income levels also increasing. Job opportunities in this sector are those associated with agriculture and such as Animal nutrition, Veterinary, Agronomists, Aquatic Ecologists, Marine Biologists and Environmental sciences.
The city’s growth has attracted some major investments from outside countries for instance in 2005, nearly USD $1 billion worth of foreign direct investment was poured into the city, mainly in hi-tech, manufacturing, food production, and other services. And all these investments came from the US and some European countries. The economic growth, has also resulted in environmental pollution in Changsha and this has become a serious problem, with rapidly increasing number of private cars, construction fields everywhere, and numerous industrial facilities on the outskirts of the city. This has created some jobs for environmental scientists to manage Changsha’s natural resources and prevent pollution.
