BANGKOK, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's Privy Council President Prem Tinsulanonda and Defense Minister Boonrawd Somtat met here Friday with Chinese Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan, who is visiting Thailand for the celebrations of the Thai King's birthday in early December.
General Cao Gangchuan, also vice chairman of the Central Military Commission of the People's Republic of China and a state councilor, reaffirmed that the Chinese government attaches great importance to the long-time friendly cooperative relationship between China and Thailand, which has covered various areas and brought material benefits to both peoples.
General Prem, top adviser to the King of Thailand, told Cao that it was the joint efforts by both sides that have pushed forward Thai-China relations in a smooth way, achieving fruitful results. It is the common wish of the Royal Family, government and the people in Thailand to further develop the kinship-like relations between the two countries and to pass the ties on to future generations of the two peoples.
Boonrawd, on whose invitation Cao made his visit to Bangkok, told his Chinese counterpart that the Thai government, people and the military understand China's stance on the Taiwan issue and will uphold the "one-China" policy.
The Chinese general, arriving in Bangkok Friday, has been invited to attend Sunday's Royal Parade, the centerpiece of the grand celebrations for the 80th Birthday of Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej on Dec. 5.
Cao is scheduled to meet Thai Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont Monday before leaving Bangkok the same day.
